For 60+</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 21px; line-height: 24px;">years, the organizing committee of the Lindau meetings had an orthodox rule in dealing with the media.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As a journalist, you would get a kind invitation to attend the morning sessions but not to take part in most of the activities.</span></div><div align="right" class="MsoNormal" dir="RTL" style="text-align: left;"><span dir="LTR" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-language: AR-EG;">The uniqueness of the Lindau meeting is not in the Laureates morning talks but rather in the afternoon discussions between the young researchers and the Nobel Laureates and that is where the journalists are not allowed to be. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div align="right" class="MsoNormal" dir="RTL" style="text-align: left;"><span dir="LTR" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-language: AR-EG;">I always thought about the interesting talks that might happen behind the closed doors like a young researcher from Bangladesh talking about the impact of climate change on health conditions in is country or a Nigerian researcher pointing to the lake funding in pursuing her work while the Laureate listens carefully and gives his contribution to the discussion. </span><span lang="AR-EG" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-language: AR-EG;"><o:p></o:p></span></div><div align="right" class="MsoNormal" dir="RTL" style="text-align: left;"><span dir="LTR" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-language: AR-EG;">In an old interview with Prof Wolfgang Shurer </span><span class="st1"><span dir="LTR" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Chairman of the </span></span><em><span dir="LTR" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Lindau</span></em><span class="st1"><span dir="LTR" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%;"> Nobel Prize Winners' </span></span><em><span dir="LTR" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Meeting</span></em><span class="st1"><span dir="LTR" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%;"> Foundation he explained one of the orthodox rules of the Lindau meeting by not allowing the journalists to attend the closed afternoon meetings between the young researchers and the Noble Laureates. He stressed that they are keen to offer a free liberal space to young researchers to talk and exchange their thoughts and ideas with the Laureates. He added that the presence of journalists might create a fear among young researchers that they will be quoted about their views which might cause them troubles in their countries. Prof Shurer also pointed that even if the media may help in bonding the gap between the researchers and the society it would be better to let the young researchers decide when they want or can to talk to the media.</span></span><span class="st1"><span lang="AR-EG" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-language: AR-EG;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div><div align="right" class="MsoNormal" dir="RTL" style="text-align: left;"><span class="st1"><span dir="LTR" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-language: AR-EG;">Though I had a point in my talk with Countess Betina </span></span><span dir="LTR" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-language: AR-EG;">Bernadotte, I felt a bit uncertain. According to Joanna Mackay Graduate student from University of California, she uses occasionally facebook for socializing with friends as this was the common social media doing her undergrad studies while she never used twitter and don't think she may need it. As for Nadia Haj Yasein a Palestinian graduate student at University of Oslo she used facebook<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>rarely while she uses more a new <a href="http://www.academia.edu/">social media</a> website to read the papers of her peers. For Andrea Lima postdoc researcher from University of Chile, the researchers have quite limited time to lose it in following what is happening on the social media and for her if she has a scientific question she would send an email to the a colleague or a professor but never will use twitter or facebook for that reason. </span><span lang="AR-EG" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-language: AR-EG;"><o:p></o:p></span></div><div align="right" class="MsoNormal" dir="RTL" style="text-align: left;"><span dir="LTR"></span><span dir="LTR" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-language: AR-EG;"><span dir="LTR"></span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Matthew Jones a Phd student at Northwest University explains that twitter consumes a lot of money as you may need a smart phone and to pay to receive every single tweet which is most of the time useless information. When I asked why as young researchers they are not following the trend of their generation, Phd student Melanie Klein from Institue of Immunology in Germany<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>replied back by asking why should they? As for her trendy stuff are not always useful.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div align="right" class="MsoNormal" dir="RTL" style="text-align: left;"><span dir="LTR" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-language: AR-EG;">For a couple of days I interviewed about 60 of the 567 young researchers attending the event The interviewees were from all corners of the world and nearly they agreed that twitter and twittering was a waste of time and a source of distraction while facebook is just for socializing with old friends but for sure if they have some time they prefer to read a study talk with colleagues in the lab next door. </span></div><div align="right" class="MsoNormal" dir="RTL" style="text-align: left;"><span dir="LTR" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-language: AR-EG;">In short they prefer to be in the real world not the virtual one.<o:p></o:p></span></div></div>Ashraf Aminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09921601432466570660noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4175360062130739708.post-20707461476998378102011-07-12T16:37:00.001-07:002011-07-12T16:37:59.038-07:00عن المعتصمين والمتظاهرين<div style="text-align: right;">حاسس إنى بتفرج على فيلم كارتون توم وجيرى </div><div style="text-align: right;">توم دايما وحش وشرير بينما جيرى هو البطل المنكسر فى الأول والمنتصر فى النهاية </div><div style="text-align: right;">أى واحد أيا كان مستواه الثقافى أو وضعه العلمى ممكن دلوقتى يفرش الملاية ويردح ويشتم وينظر فى إجراءات المجلس العسكرى أو مجلس الوزراء أو حتى المتهمين </div><div style="text-align: right;">بدءا من التويتر والفيسبوك حتى قنوات التوك شو </div><div style="text-align: right;">الكلام والرغى والعك لا له أو ولا آخر </div><div style="text-align: right;">لكن</div><div style="text-align: right;"> مين ممكن يحاسب المتظاهرين والمعتصمين على أفعالهم </div><div style="text-align: right;">وليه كل حاجة بيعملوها لازم تكون مبرره أو صح أصلا؟ وليه لما حاجة غلط بتحصل من فئة ما بنلاقيش من يتحمل مسؤولية الخطأ ده وكأننا عيال صغيرين و بابا لازم يتحمل أخطاء العيال</div><div style="text-align: right;">يعنى التظاهر والاعتصام حق مكفول لكل مواطن</div><div style="text-align: right;">لكن بالنسبة لتغيب الناس عن العمل بسبب الاعتصام</div><div style="text-align: right;">والإضرار بالمصالح العامة </div><div style="text-align: right;">مين اللى هيعتذر عن إغلاق مجمع التحرير؟ </div><div style="text-align: right;">مين اللى هيتحمل تكاليف إعادة تنظيف شوارع القاهرة من مخلفات الباعة الجائلين وتعليقات وشتائم الثائرين على الحيطان</div><div style="text-align: right;">مين الى هيتحاسب عن إغلاق الشوارع والطرق العامة </div><div style="text-align: right;">مين اللى هيعاقب بسبب تسريب إشاعات عن قطع الكهرباء عن مصر أو قطع ممر قناة السويس عن السفن</div><div style="text-align: right;"><div class="MsoNormal" dir="RTL" style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><span lang="AR-EG" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">مين اللى هعيتذر عن توقف أكاديمية البحث العلمى عن نشاطها<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" dir="RTL" style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><span lang="AR-EG" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">وعن تكسير زجاج المدخل وانتشار التعليقات على حوائط المحاكم</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" dir="RTL" style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><span lang="AR-EG" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">أى حد ممكن يقول على نفسه إنه صاحب قضية وعايز حقه دلوقتى : بالصوت العال بالشتيمة بالاعتصام المهم يكون فى الصورة والفضائيات تصور علشان تملا مساحات من الحوار والرغى والبوابات الإلكترونية تجرى وراء الخبر وتصريحات كل من هب ودب.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" dir="RTL" style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><span lang="AR-EG" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">النكتة إن جميع قوى الضغط تتحدث عن الحقوق والمطالبات دون أن تمارس فنون التفاوض والسياسة بينما كافة التيارات السياسية والأحزاب الجديدة والقديمة والنقابات تتحدث عن السياسة دون تمارسها يعنى الى الآن لم أسمع عن توسط أى حزب أو تيار سياسى لإيجاد حلول توافقية لأى فئات متضررة<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" dir="RTL" style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><span lang="AR-EG" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">حد فاهم إيه اللى بيحصل بالضبط ؟ </span></div></div>Ashraf Aminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09921601432466570660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4175360062130739708.post-52395231941951258662011-07-10T06:03:00.000-07:002011-07-10T06:22:37.170-07:00إسمى ...خالد سعيد<div style="text-align: right;"></div><div style="text-align: right;">اليوم 6 يونيو..
يذكر الناس جميعا كيف سعي النظام الي الصاق التهم بالشهيد وبلي الحقائق وتهميش الجرم <strong><em><u><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZS3iEYA0Mg">شاهد الفيديو</a></u></em></strong>.</div><div style="text-align: right;"><img border="0" id="imgSrc" name="imgSrc" src="http://gate.ahram.org.eg/Media/News/2011/6/6/2011-634429941062575465-257.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: right;"><br />
.. هي اشياء لاتشتري".</div><div style="text-align: right;"><br />
<br />
وبعيدا عن قش الارز، تمكن فريق بحثي آخر من تصميم قرون استشعار يمكن توزيعها بالاراضي الزراعيه لرصد درجه الحراره والرطوبه للنباتات عن بعد ويقول المهندس محمد الشناوي ان هذا المشروع يساعد علي التحكم في معدل الري دون هلك للمياه او ضرر للمزروعات كما يمكن تطبيقه في المسطحات الزراعيه الكبري ومن الضروري في المرحله المقبله ان يتم ادراج هذا المفهوم الجديد في الري والزراعه خاصه في ظل انخفاض موارد المياه واستمرار تطبيق سياسه الري بالغمر والتي تفقدنا ما يعادل 50% من المياه لذلك فهذا المشروع قد يكون نواه لتغيير مفهوم الري والي تعظيم الاستفاده من المياه الموجهه للزراعه.</div>Ashraf Aminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09921601432466570660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4175360062130739708.post-69704341732809331482011-07-10T05:53:00.000-07:002011-07-10T05:53:43.937-07:004 Egyptians in 10 want to migrate for work post-revolution<em>The International Organisation for Migration’s survey of 750 young Egyptians reveals that the closed job market makes migration more appealing than last year, despite their optimism about the future</em> <br />
In a recent survey by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) 41 per cent of the youth in Egypt confirmed that the events post-revolution makes them want to migrate<span>.</span><br />
The survey was presented on Monday in its final draft during the IOM press conference on safe migration at the Italian Cultural Institute in Zamalek.<br />
According to Pasquale Lupoli, IOM’s MENA region representative, the survey was taken in the last 2 months in order to monitor the shift in Egyptians’ thoughts on migration after the revolution<span>.</span><br />
The study interviewed 750 Egyptians between the ages of 15 - 29 from 17 different governorates<span>.</span><br />
<span>"</span>By comparing with last year’s survey, we noticed a slight increase in willingness for migration" summarised Lupoli<span>.</span><br />
The survey reveals that the first weeks of the revolution didn't seem to influence Egyptian’s decision to migrate. However, the decline in economic activity afterwards and the losses of jobs and incomes acted as a primary push factor for youth who reported intentions to migrate.<br />
When asked what their top five most important issues are, they ranked jobs and employment as a primary issue; then corruption; security; constitutional reform and at the bottom of their list was education and the presidential and parliamentary elections<span>.</span><br />
Half of the respondents mentioned that the higher salary prospects abroad is the major pull factor for migration. They also favoured Saudi Arabia and UAE compared to the Western world for short-term migration<span>.</span><br />
Over 80 per cent of the respondents got information about migration either through a relative or a friend living abroad. Fifty per cent of participants said they will be willing to work in jobs that don't match their specialisation and 30 per cent of the youth perceived irregular migration channels as "easy<span>".</span><br />
When asked about their expectation for the future in Egypt, 63 per cent showed cautious optimism and 80 per cent expected the national economy to improve over the course of the next year<span>.</span>Ashraf Aminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09921601432466570660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4175360062130739708.post-63426269857035276382011-07-10T05:48:00.000-07:002011-07-10T05:48:41.774-07:0060 bloggers recount their revolutionary stories in 'Tweets from Tahrir'<div style="text-align: left;">Idle, co-editor of the recently published compilation, returns to Cairo to share her inspiration with the bloggers she coordinated with as they discuss their accounts and share their stories of Tahrir</div><div style="text-align: left;"><i><em>Tweets from Tahrir</em>, edited by <strong><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbNftR4Q-yw">NADIA IDLE</a> and ALEX NUNNS</strong>, London: OR Publishing, 2011. pp.234</i></div><i>"You People are Hypocrites! You talk about democracy but you won't let me run for President? Where is freedom?!" such were the words of fake Hosny Mubarak on Twitter. If you didn't have a chance to read it before, you will find it in the recently published Tweets from Tahrir.</i><br />
<i>The book, a compilation of tweets from the 18 day uprising in Tahrir, was published in Europe and the US last March. Co-edited by Nadia Idle and Alex Nunns, the latest book to touch on the 25 January Revolution has been well received by world media for its unique look at the events through the tweets of 60 bloggers.</i><br />
<i>In her last visit to Cairo, Idle, an Egyptian-British Activist and SOAS scholar, arranged a group meeting with the bloggers at the Windsor Hotel last week to thank them for allowing her to use their tweets and to offer them copies of the book. She also gave a speech about how the idea of using tweets to recount the events of Tahrir came to her and how they would evolve in the book.</i><br />
<i>A large cross-section of the bloggers were there: Sandmonkey, Gigi Ibrahim and many others were all talking and introducing themselves to the other bloggers with their twitter names.</i><br />
<i>According to Idle, the book will be launched in Egypt and the Middle East by June and the publishers, OR Books, are planning to translate the book into Hindi as the 25 January Revolution had a strong affect in South East Asian Countries.</i><br />
<i> As for translating the book into Arabic, Idle said that some bloggers expressed concern while others refused since they felt bad translations or being accused for their political words could unnecessarily get them tangled up with the current interim rulers, especially considering that one of the book’s bloggers, Tarek Shalaby , was recently arrested and later released for taking part in the nakba protests in front of Cairo’s Israeli embassy. </i><br />
<i><strong>According to the publisher’s website, a portion of the proceeds from the book will be donated to Egyptian grassroots revolutionary movements campaigning for democracy.</strong></i>Ashraf Aminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09921601432466570660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4175360062130739708.post-86862247180868084992011-05-02T09:11:00.000-07:002011-05-02T09:11:35.043-07:00بن لادن وصدام حسين الأكثر تداولا على تويتر<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><br />

His continuous efforts in raising mobile and internet penetration were the reasons to nominate him as Prime Minister of Egypt on july 2004 and Ironically to quick him off the Cabinet 7years later.</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;"> Dr Nazif helped the youth to be exposed to the bigger world and to share their views and opinions on the social network websites specially: facebook, twitter, youtube …</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">He created a Youth society that lives in a bubble unable to implement their ideas and serve their country in the real world.</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">This dilemma was quite reflected in several calls for online/offline protests before the 25th of Jan like :</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;"><strong>The 6th of April 2008 strike </strong>which started on Facebook by Israa Abdelfattah a blogger and activist who wanted to show solidarity to workers in Mahalla city.</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;"><strong>the 9th of March movement </strong>by the Cairo University professors who were seeking University Independence from all hidden roles the ministry of Interior was playing in students elections, selecting the Deans of the faculties and many other things. </div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;"><strong>"Kefaya"</strong> aka Enough another famous movement against Mubarak regime who has been in power for 30 years.</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">Though such strikes and protests didn't stop the regime's brutality or reduce corruption it created a growing pool of anger among diverse sections of the society.</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">In my opinion, the political movements alone were not the reason but the political movements main strength was breaking the barrier of fear.</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">People got used to see protests and knew that protesters won't be harmed if they go in large numbers, this exact feeling was inspired by Tunisian Revolution before anything else.</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">In 2009, when Gamal Mubarak the president's son and head of the policy committee in the National Democratic Party (NDP) was asked in a press conference if the party will start a national talk with the pressure groups and facebook activists he smiled and made a joke out of the question.</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">This reflected how the regime was discounting the impact of virtual talks. In addition, no one at that time thought that the activists of the virtual world may have a strong influence on the Egyptians and that is due to several reasons :</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">Firstly the gap between the vivid life in the big cities and the emptiness in the rest of the country specially the villages and the rural areas where the high rates of illiteracy and poverty. Secondly, Contrary to most policies in the Middle East region of blocking certain websites the Ministry of Interior had a totally different strategy that consists of monitoring the bloggers and arresting them when it's required and that is what happened with Wael Ghonim the Admin of the Facebook page Khaled Saiid which protests against police brutality, Israa Abdelfattah, Wael Abbas and many others.</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;"><strong>So how the revolution was accomplished ?</strong></div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">According to some experts one of the key success factors of the Egyptian revolution is that it was a leaderless act. no individual heroes as we used to have in the Middle East no Abd-El-Nasser no Sa3d Zaghlool, no single icon it is the power of people organized using technology. This is the trend that is leading the world now .. WE is much better than I not just in production but even in working and getting credit.</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">I remember quite well at that time, I used to get on my facebook page pictures and slogans of each Friday protest with clear objectives why are protesting ? what are our demands ? where are the meeting points ?</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">The persistence of sending updates of what is going on the ground with live footages pushed people who were never activists or cared about politics to take part and assist in the revolution. Our Tunisian Counterparts were quite helpful by sending us pictures and advices on how to deal with tear bombs or the police brutality.</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">Though the revolution have started on facebook and twitter it became afterwards everyone's protest and it gained more strength by the solidarity and support of all pressure groups that failed in the past years to make a change. This might explain why blocking the internet was not a smart idea to stop the revolution</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">All these actions didn't stop the people specially after turning Tahrir Square into a center point for all Egyptian protestors.</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">On the second week of the revolution the social media appealed to be a trustable reliable source of information and footage. Bloggers and activists were recording every event, facebook and twitter users in and out of the country were copying the status bars of their peers which was mainly about calls for blood donations, rescuing injured, adding the link of a new article or footage from Tahrir Square. There were pages for missing people and for those who lost their lives during the protests, video clips of policemen shooting on civilians or thugs attacking on camels and throwing stones protestors . </div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">Since the 25th of Jan till the 11th of Feb, the Egyptians were exposed to 18 days of unstoppable flow of information from the social media to the extent that newspapers and tv talk shows were editing stories based on what was written and discussed on facebook, the Military council and the ministry cabinet had started their pages on facebook to send their messages to the public and sometimes they were sending SMS or emails when there was a need for urgency.</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">From my personal living experience the social media gave the people the feeling that they are not alone, i am angry and so do you but how many of us share the same feeling? social media gave the answer and provided a new way for communication.</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">It also saved the revolution by continuously informing the people of what is going on on the ground, and what's not mentioned by the classical media.</div><div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">It is without any doubt that our generation is quite lucky to have such tools, as for children and the coming generations they will be able to read about the Egyptian revolution from what was recorded from the media and the social media.
